GNO--Painting with a Twist

Last night, I met up with some girlfriends at Painting with a Twist for some fun, food, wine and painting.
We had an absolute blast! Luckily, what we painted was very abstract. I'm giving mine to Barry to put in his office. Thanks to Stacey for setting up such a great night! Can't wait to see all of you girls again soon!

Fun Weekend!

We are already halfway through an amazing weekend! Here's what we have on tap:
  • Friday--Date Night--Breast Cancer Fundraiser at Blackfinn and dinner at Vida (I highly recommend this restaurant! It was our first time there, and we will definitely be going back. The surf & turf tacos are to die for!) Fun! I love date night. Barry and I make a point to get out of the house alone together once a week. It gives us something to look forward to and time to unwind together and just enjoy each other's company.
  • Saturday--Beautiful weather--Chick-fil-A breakfast (Branner's favorite, he loves their hashbrowns), a trip to Costco/Lowes for the boys, a little down time for me, lots of playing in the yard, a neighborhood walk, playing at Jen's, a solid nap for B and grilling out with friends for dinner. Great day all around!
  • Sunday--Family--B and I are packing up and heading to visit Gigi and Big Papa for the night tomorrow night. We are so excited to see them and Uncle Blakey, Lindsay and Tyler! We may even go shoe shopping and go to a pumpkin patch while we're there.
I love weekends, don't you?!?!

The only pic from our five year celebration. Blurry much? But, thanks anyway, Dunhill bartender!

Miami Trip

We're back from Miami, and we had a blast! Of course, all of my careful planning went to the wayside, but what can you do? Our flight was delayed Friday, and we missed our massage. We ended up going somewhere different for dinner on Friday night. We had brunch on Saturday, relaxed, shopped, walked around Coconut Grove, got manis and hot stone pedis (Barry is a trooper) and went to dinner at Prime 112. I can't wait to go back again!!!

Miami Getaway!

Our hotel--The Mayfair

Rooftop Pool and Bar at The Mayfair

Miami!!!

Barry and I's first weekend away from Branner together is coming up! We leave this Friday morning, and arrive in warm and sunny Miami before lunch. We have spent a few nights away from Branner, separately and together, but we haven't spent a whole weekend away at the same time yet.

Barry planned and set the whole thing up with my mom and then let me pick our destination once the logistics had been ironed out. I wanted to go to NYC, but February in NY is not exactly mild, so I went with somewhere a little warmer. We are staying at The Mayfair Hotel and Spa, and have dinner reservations at Bond St. on Friday and Prime 112 on Saturday thanks to the recommendations of several people including my dad. We're planning on having lunch and a couple of drinks at the famous Joe's Stone Crab upon our arrival Friday and we are going to shop, shop, shop and get a couple's massage Saturday afternoon. Ahhhhhh, vacation! I can't wait!

Girl's Weekend Recap

My first weekend away from Branner was a success! We left around 1:45 on Friday afternoon--surprisingly without any real tears from me. I fed Branner his lunch and put him down for his nap (I did get a little choked up at that point, but tried to hold it together), then packed my car and waited on Ashley and Colleen and for the fun to officially begin.

We made a short pit stop to meet Stacey, who was coming from Winston where she had dropped her kiddos off, and headed up the mountain. A quick wardrobe change into stretchy pants and comfortable, warm tops was made by all before the "festivities" began. (Did I mention the snow?? There were several inches on the ground!) We gorged ourselves with junk food and a delicious meal from the Carriage House and broke out the adult beverages. We watched Sex and the City and went to bed early. It was the perfect night.

I tried to sleep in on Saturday. I really, really did. However, the best I could do was 8:00, and I'm not going to lie, I am able to do that at home if Barry gets up with Branner in the morning. We ate breakfast and had some caffeine--be it coffee, Coke, or Diet Coke. And, then we lounged. And lounged. And lounged some more. It was delightful NOT to be on a schedule for the first time in 9 1/2 months. It was wonderful to be able to sit and do nothing. We watched Sex and the City 2 and Drop Dead Gorgeous. I took a nap. We ate pizza and had good wine and watched more movies and went to bed early.

Sleeping in on Sunday was just not in the cards due to the time change and falling back an hour, so we ate breakfast, cleaned, got ready and headed down the mountain for lunch and a little shopping. I was anxious to get back to my boys. I missed them, but I am very thankful to have had a little time off to relax and recharge. And, I certainly did both!

Girl's Weekend

This afternoon, I will pack my car with my suitcase full of warm clothes, the junk food I purchased yesterday and Ashley and Colleen's weekend necessities. I will kiss my boys goodbye and head towards Beech Mountain for my first weekend away from Branner. I am excited and nervous and scared, but I need this time away with my college roomies.

I know I will miss Branner like crazy, that I probably won't sleep in like I keep saying I'm looking forward to, that I will worry and that I will probably shed a tear or two. But, I also know that I will have FUN. I will be off a schedule. I will get to spend time with some of my favorite people in the world that I just don't get to see enough. I will get to watch both Sex and the City movies back-to-back and probably more than once. I will get to shop at the outlets :)!

Here we go...Mommy's first weekend off. Woooohoooooo!

Mommy's Morning Off!

Per the picture, when mommy is happy, everyone is happy!

Today was a big day for both Branner and I. It was his first day with his new summer babysitter (and my lifesaver), Lauren. Don't get me wrong. I looooooooooove Branner more than anything, and I am truly enjoying staying at home with him. But 5 months is a long time to go with few breaks. When your family doesn't live in town, babysitters are hard to come by...especially for infants.

After months of doing my mommy job literally 24/7, imagine my excitement for 4 hours off once a week and a few hours on the weekends. Heaven on earth, I tell you! I got to go to the mall and not have to drag out a stroller and 17 pound baby in addition to a diaper bag. I didn't have to pack anything or plan ahead. I got to walk out the door with my purse and nothing else. And, it felt good. Another thing that felt good: getting my OOC eyebrows waxed. Wow. My regular waxer either quit or got fired before my last appointment, and I couldn't seem to find time to reschedule. I feel like a new person with my time off and my perfectly shaped eyebrows!

Things went so well today, that Barry and I have booked Lauren again for tomorrow night. I know, right? What kind of lucky girl am I to get a sitter two days in a row? Barry is the best, that's all I can say!
