Saturday with The Kirbys

First time wearing these this Fall!

My view at breakfast. Sandwich, sippy cup, trash, IPad, toddler bottom.
Saturday tradition.

We woke up this morning and decided that Bruegger's was a must for breakfast! I also decided that since it was dreary and damp out, today would be a great day to break out my rain boots! After a quick, yummy breakfast, we headed over to Lowe's to shop for mums to decorate our front stoop. And, of course, a little tractor ridin' for B. We made a quick trip to BJ's (which I am loving, BTW), stopped in a furniture, consignment store, and Blacklion, then headed back home. Now, it's naptime, and all three of my boys are snoozing. I plan to relax on the couch and maybe watch a movie! Hope y'all have a fabulous Saturday!

Weekend Update

New urns. Terrible pic, but you get the idea.

I. Am. So. Tired.

We have had a wonderful weekend, but we are all pooped! Case in point: Branner slept until 9:15 today. 9:15!!!!!! All y'all with kiddos know that sleeping past 9 is the mommy equivalent to sleeping until noon. It was so nice!

Friday night, we met Jen, Trey, and Saline at Stonecrest for dinner at Smashburger, live music, a little bit of prosecco from Dean & Deluca, and some ice cream. We had a blast! I need to look up and see how much longer they're doing the live music thing, because I'd love to take Branner again!

Saturday, we also got to sleep in (8:30!!). We did a few things around the house, then hit the road to Asheboro because last night was Blake and Lindsay's first wedding shower! What a great party! Barry and I even made it downtown for a minute after the shower (probably has something to do with why I'm so sleepy today). It was our first time out in Asheboro, which is crazy, but we always stick close to home on our visits.

We drove back to Charlotte this afternoon, and I've caught up on a few TV shows and lounged while Barry planted in our new front door urns. I have a black thumb, so I leave all of the gardening to him. They turned out great!

We'll do a low key dinner and probably go to bed super early tonight. What a fun couple of days! I'm pretty sure we'll be staying put next weekend instead of traveling for Labor Day!

The Perfect Weekend

Wow, we had an amazing weekend! I was just sitting down for the night, settling into all of my delicious Sunday night reality TV shows, and thought about what a great time we had! Our perfect weekend looks like this:

  • A low-key Friday night with a simple meal and an early bedtime.
  • A boat ride and lunch on the lake Saturday morning/afternoon.
  • Date night on Saturday night.
  • Sleeping in this morning (thanks, Branner)!!
  • A movie date for me this afternoon with Ashley. We saw Mirror, Mirror. Loved it!
  • Dinner with the Thompsons on the patio tonight.

Hope all of you had a great weekend, too!

Saturday Lunch Date

Barry was shooting skeet in the 'boro this morning, so Branner and I had to occupy ourselves. We played, watched the Curious George movie, went to the Y, had a lunch date and stopped by the bank. Happy Saturday, friends!

Weekend Recap

For the first time in a long while, Barry and I didn't have a date night on Friday or Saturday. We stayed in, played with B and had lots of family time. Good thing I had gone to the movies on Thursday and Barry went out for a few drinks after work on Friday! Otherwise, we would have had cabin fever! Some things we did this weekend...

  • Played
  • Had a dance party (or ten)
  • Went on a walk
  • Visited Jake
  • Went to the park
  • Watched Finding Nemo
  • Had a family breakfast at Phil's
  • Went to church
  • Had a birthday dinner for my dad

I swear, Saturday and Sunday always go by too fast! Can't wait for next weekend, when we will be celebrating sweet B's second birthday! I cannot believe he is already two!!!!

Nature Boy

{via}

We are just in from a fun family morning! We started with our weekly tradition of breakfast at Phil's, did a little house scouting (I don't want to say hunting, because this is very preemptive) and capped it off with a trip to the park. I LOVE SUNDAYS!

Branner has developed a new interest in the past few weeks. He is currently obsessed with bugs: ants, butterflies, spiders, anything that crawls. He gets so excited about them and likes to crouch down and search for them. He thinks spider webs are hilarious for some reason. He is very curious about all things bug-related. It's so fun/funny to watch him enjoy something so much! I love it when he discovers new things!!! Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend!

Fun Weekend!

We are already halfway through an amazing weekend! Here's what we have on tap:
  • Friday--Date Night--Breast Cancer Fundraiser at Blackfinn and dinner at Vida (I highly recommend this restaurant! It was our first time there, and we will definitely be going back. The surf & turf tacos are to die for!) Fun! I love date night. Barry and I make a point to get out of the house alone together once a week. It gives us something to look forward to and time to unwind together and just enjoy each other's company.
  • Saturday--Beautiful weather--Chick-fil-A breakfast (Branner's favorite, he loves their hashbrowns), a trip to Costco/Lowes for the boys, a little down time for me, lots of playing in the yard, a neighborhood walk, playing at Jen's, a solid nap for B and grilling out with friends for dinner. Great day all around!
  • Sunday--Family--B and I are packing up and heading to visit Gigi and Big Papa for the night tomorrow night. We are so excited to see them and Uncle Blakey, Lindsay and Tyler! We may even go shoe shopping and go to a pumpkin patch while we're there.
I love weekends, don't you?!?!

Spring-like Sunday

Oh, what a beautiful day it was yesterday! We took advantage of the 70+ degree temperature and played outside with Branner as much as possible! As you can see, he had a great time exploring in the yard and "riding" his bike. Barry also took him on a long walk and to swing at the park after his nap. What a wonderful day! We are wishing for Spring at our house!

Weekend Warrior

Ahhhhh. Branner is snuggled up in his bed (almost) sleeping, the animals are napping, and I am enjoying a sparkling water contemplating just what exactly it is I am going to do this weekend while Barry is away. Hmmmmm. A few ideas:

  • Clean out my fridge/freezer. This is long overdue and will require a glass of wine (or two). This sucks because it will require me taking out trash, which I HATE.
  • Clean out and reorganize my pantry. See above.
  • Upload Branner's birthday pictures. Post them on Facebook and here. Make a photo album of them.
  • Order new bedding for my guest room. The last set I ordered ended up being brown and not white and gray, which is what it looked like in the pictures. SO ANNOYING. But, I have found something else...
  • Look into printing a book of this blog's 2010 entries.
  • Write a blog or two for Modern Parent. Have you liked them on Facebook yet???
  • Find a new book to read.
  • Reward myself for all my hard work with a little online shopping. I'm really good at rewarding myself. Maybe I should start there...

Raleighwood

Watching football with Uncle J. He wants me to play for State one day!

Best. Nieces. Ever.

I love Aunt Kiki!

Playing with the girls outside.

We really don't sit still for long around here. Maybe that's where Branner gets it from... We are just in from spending the night in Cary and visiting Jason, Kendra, Devyn and Courtney. We also spent our first night EVER away from Branner. He spent the night at Jason and Kendra's and while we opted for a hotel room. He was in very capable hands and had a great time at his first sleepover! His cousins played with him, walked him, fed him, changed him and just loved on him in general. He even decided to sleep through the night (9:45pm-7:00am), which has become a trend the past few days. I sure hope it sticks (again)!

Last night, all the adults went out for a yummy dinner and a few drinks at The Oxford downtown. If you live in Raleigh or visit the area, I highly recommend this restaurant. It has a great atmosphere and the food is amazing! We also went to see Demetri Martin, whose show was HILARIOUS. It was an awesome night and so nice to sleep in this morning.

We all went to church this morning. Barry and Branner went with Jason and Kendra, while I went to Brittany's church for the baptism of Brock. It was a wonderful service and so great to see my best friend and her adorable family! Love to the Laxtons!

Thanks to Jason, Kendra and the girls for everything. We love you guys!!!

Labor Day Weekend

With all of the traveling we've been doing and trips we have coming up, we decided to cancel our Holden Beach plans last weekend in favor of a weekend at home. We started the weekend off with a low-key night at home on Friday night. We took a trip to shop around for a few things Saturday morning. Barry worked in the yard that afternoon while Branner and I took long naps. We took Branner to our favorite burger joint, Big Daddy's that evening and all had a great time! Branner enjoyed flirting with the waitresses and Barry and I enjoyed our delicious burgers. We topped the night off with a stop at Yoforia for me on the way home. It was pretty much the perfect day!

On Sunday, we went out to our favorite breakfast spot, Eddie's Place. It used to be a Sunday tradition to do breakfast out for Barry and I, and I think we should start going again with Branner. After relaxing around the house, I finally got off my butt late Sunday afternoon and went to the Y for some cardio and a yoga class. We spent Sunday evening at home enjoying a yummy homemade steak dinner, some fabulous wine and funny movies.

Barry and I both hit the gym Monday morning, had a great lunch at home and got a few things done around the house. We wrapped up just in time to get some quality playtime in with Branner and have some friends over for dinner. I love long family weekends!

Blowing Rock Wedding Weekend

Branner's babysitters

Hanging out downtown

View from the deck

At "our" church

This past weekend, we packed our bags yet again and hit the road to Blowing Rock to attend the wedding of Jessica Croom and Trevor Watson. We stayed in a huge house close to town with the Andrews, Kimels, Pattersons, my parents and of course, Bailey. We hung out at the house while everyone was at the Rehearsal Dinner and after party Friday night and enjoyed some delicious a Mellow Mushroom pizza. I can't wait until the new MM opens in Myers Park!

Saturday, we went into Blowing Rock for lunch at Six Pence Pub, a little shopping and a little walking around downtown. We were going to take Branner to swing at the park, but that will have to wait for our next trip because Branner was ready for a nap after the morning's activities. Branner had two babysitters who entertained him while we attended the wedding festivities Saturday evening. It was a special wedding to us because both the wedding and reception were held where we had our own wedding almost four years ago. We had (a little too much fun)! The bride was beautiful, the ceremony was great and the reception was a blast. It was so nice to see lots of familiar faces!

We can't wait to take Branner back to the mountains this fall! He really seems to love it there!

Beautiful Friday!

Chloe enjoying the sunshine

Dylan hanging in the shade

Bailey sunbathing

It is such a beautiful day out, we are going to take advantage of it by going on a nice long walk and soaking up all the sunshine we can just like Bailey, Chloe and Dylan! We have a fun and busy weekend ahead. Gigi and Big Papa are coming to spend Saturday night with us! We can't wait to see them! There will be Lexington BBQ, shopping and ballgame watching going on. We're also planning to go out to dinner somewhere. On Sunday, I am having brunch w/ Jessica, and I can't wait! I may even sneak in a pedicure, too! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys this lovely weather!
